Health Occupations Co-Op

Do You...

  • want job experiences
  • want to work in a health related field?

Will you be ready for the future?

Have you ever wanted to get job experience in a health related field and go to school at the same time? The Health Occupations Co-op class will allow you to do just that.

This class will allow you to gain valuable paid job experience in a health related environment. Health related careers are both challenging and in great demand. According to the Department of Labor, many of the fastest growing occupations will be concentrated in health services, which is expected to increase more than twice as fast as the economy as a whole.

The Health Occupations Co-op class will combine on-the-job paid work experience with one period per day of instruction. Classroom instruction will focus on acquiring the knowledge and skills that will give you that competitive edge. The instruction menu for the year will include such topics as: job seeking skills, career exploration, employability skills, development of essential character traits, basic work relations, legal protection and responsibilities, and much more.

Career Opportunities Immediately After High School ...

After graduation you will be equipped with the necessary nontechnical knowledge, abilities and skills needed to secure and retain job-entry-level employment. Career opportunities include dental laboratory assistant, nursing aide, orderly, and physical therapy aides, just to name a few. The Department of Labor states that the top four of the twenty occupations accounting for half of all job growth through 2005 will not require an education beyond high school. Please note, however, that jobs requiring the least education and training will provide the most openings through 2005 but offer the lowest pay. Jobs in this area can expect to start at minimum wage or better depending on the amount of experience, responsibility, and skills. Although high paying jobs will be available without college training, most jobs paying above average wages will require post secondary training and/or a college degree. Included in this brochure are a few.
