In this innovative program, students will experience manufacturing processes first hand. Most training will be conducted on-site at the John Deere Harvester Technical Training Center. Students will receive training on real industrial machines and equipment by experienced precision metal workers.

John Deere employees will lead these students through a wide variety of educational experiences including technical skills such as welding, sheet metal fabrication, precision measurement and layout, and CNC programming.

In addition to these technical skills, the students will participate in many activities designed to develop general employability skills. Management personnel will conduct training seminars and work shops in such areas as personal effectiveness, presentation skills, teamwork, and problem solving techniques. This program, which is the result of business/education partnership with John Deere Harvester will help students become more aware of the requirements, satisfactions and expectations of the local workplace.

As United States industry tries to compete on a global market, its manufacturing concerns need to be more productive. This, together with changing technology, requires a highly skilled work force. As the current aging work force retires, the demand for new workers with higher skills will grow. Students will need additional post secondary training to be competitive for many of these higher paying, higher skilled jobs. The Manufacturing Technology program provides entry level skills in some areas and a sound foundation upon which to build higher skills.
