A/C offers one of a very few vocational level woodworking trades program in the state of Illinois and the only one in the Quad Cities area.

While mass production has significantly influenced the woodworking industry, there seems to be a renewed interest in fine woodworking and furniture repair as consumers continue to demand high quality wood products.

Our program prepares entry level skilled craftsperson who possess a broad base of technical knowledge and skills, which are developed through quality, hands on learning experiences designed to meet the needs of the students. The program is flexible enough to accommodate those individuals who have little or no previous woodworking training. At the same time, those individuals who have some formal training or work experience will find themselves challenged by this comprehensive study of cabinet making.

Kitchen Cabinets and Much More!

Classes are structured to allow students to pursue specific areas of interest within the woodworking industry, with the broad based emphasis on the construction of kitchen cabinets, fine furniture, millwork, mass production and marketing of wood products. Classes include instruction in blueprint reading, product design and construction techniques, veneering and laminating, maintenance of woodworking equipment, wood finish repair and refinishing, programming of computer controlled machinery and the construction of jigs and fixtures. The class is project-oriented, with individual students or teams of students designing and constructing projects to meet particular course requirements. This unique two-year program provides a broad base of training to give students many different career options.

Rewarding careers await graduates of the Woodworking Trades program, with opportunities for advancement limited only by the motivation and desire of the individual.

The demand for skilled entry-level craftsmen increases each year as older workers retire. Most of our graduates will find employment in small shops specializing in custom-built wood products, while others will seek employment in production woodworking plants such as Brammer Manufacturing, one of the nations largest kitchen cabinet manufacturers, located in Davenport, Iowa.

The possibility also exists for graduates to pursue college degrees in woodworking technology or education.
