The Oratorical Contest is a scholarship contest sponsored by Optimist Club. Students write a SHORT speech and present it to a small group. The top winners move onto the regional, state, and national competitions. The top prize is $25,000, but there are MANY scholarships to be earned along the way.

The UT Oratorical Contest will be held on March 18th in the Commons at 6:00pm. Prizes are as follows: 1st - $100; 2nd - $75; 3rd - $50. The top students will advance to the regional competition where there will be much larger scholarships.

This is available to any student (not just seniors). Interested students should see Mr. Greer in 224E to gather materials. There will also be a short meeting after school on Thursday, February 27th to discuss the scholarship. Don't let the speech scare you. Mr. Greer is a big help! We encourage any and all to compete."

Starting today Monday, Key Club will be selling Yuda Bands, which are stylish, handcrafted bracelets made from all-natural materials.  Each band is only $7, and while that may not sound like much, it is enough to truly transform lives.  Each Yuda Band sold supports the employment of several Guatemalan workers who specialize in making the bracelets.  The bulk of the proceeds will go to support Suarlin [pronounced "Swar-lin"] Amira ["A-meer-ah"], a fifteen year old boy living in rural Guatemala who needs help to continue his education and support his family.  For just $7, you can help make all this possible, AND get a great looking Yuda Band.  You can find us at lunch in the Commons starting today Monday, or talk to Mr. Lambrecht in 209 South for more information.  Buy a band, change a life.

Interested in learning more about the new Bass Fishing Club at UTHS?  An informational meeting will be held Thursday, February 27 after school in the Gallery. We hope to see you there!

We have invited the 8th grade students from our partnering schools as well. It is sure to be a great time! Hope to see you all there! "The girls bowling team ended up placing 20th this past weekend at the state tournament.  They missed the cut as a team, but Ashlyn Burkeybile and Regina Harmening placed high enough individually to continue on in the Individual tournament on Saturday.  After a good morning round on Saturday and a bit of a rough afternoon Ashlyn finished 28th overall and Regina placed 40th overall in the individual tournament.  Congratulations to the Girls bowling team on a great season!"

There will be a meeting for all students interested in baseball this Tuesday February 25th immediately after school in room 121E.  Please see Coach Meyers if there are any questions.
