"NEW SCHOLARSHIP FOR ANYONE IN GRADES 9-12!

The Oratorical Contest is a scholarship contest sponsored by Optimist Club. Students write a SHORT speech and present it to a small group. The top winners move onto the regional, state, and national competitions. The top prize is $25,000, but there are MANY scholarships to be earned along the way.

The UT Oratorical Contest will be held on March 18th in the Commons at 6:00pm. Prizes are as follows: 1st - $100; 2nd - $75; 3rd - $50. The top students will advance to the regional competition where there will be much larger scholarships.

This is available to any student (not just seniors). Interested students should see Mr. Greer in 224E to gather materials. There will also be a short meeting after school on Thursday, February 27th to discuss the scholarship. Don't let the speech scare you. Mr. Greer is a big help! We encourage any and all to compete."

Yearbook sales are in full effect!  If you have not pre-ordered a 2019-2020 yearbook, you will definitely want to do so soon.  Yearbooks can be purchased in the Commons at the book store and online for $45 if prepaid by March 6.  After the 6th, the cost increases to $55 and the extra yearbooks are very limited.  You don't want to miss out on this memory keepsake! Reminder, you only have two weeks left to get the lower price, so act quickly!

In preparation for team tryouts, the Roaring Panthers Dance Team will be hosting a clinic

Thursday March 26th from 5:45-8:15 pm in the auditorium.  Tryouts will be held on Friday March 27th from 6-8pm, in the auditorium. The clinic and tryout dates are both mandatory.  Please see Mrs. Carroll in the library for detailed information

 CLUBS:

Interested in learning more about the new Bass Fishing Club at UTHS?  An informational meeting will be held Thursday, February 27 after school in the Gallery. We hope to see you there!

GSA meeting Wednesday! We will be coming up with poster designs and ideas for the Day of Silence. The meeting is after school until 4, everyone is welcome and there will be activity busses for those who don't have rides.

There will be a student council meeting this Friday at 7:30am in the auditorium.

Key Club will be selling Yuda Bands, which are stylish, handcrafted bracelets made from all-natural materials.  Each band is only $7, and while that may not sound like much, it is enough to truly transform lives.  Each Yuda Band sold supports the employment of several Guatemalan workers who specialize in making the bracelets.  The bulk of the proceeds will go to support Suarlin [pronounced "Swar-lin"] Amira ["A-meer-ah"], a fifteen year old boy living in rural Guatemala who needs help to continue his education and support his family.  For just $7, you can help make all this possible, AND get a great looking Yuda Band.  You can find us at lunch in the Commons or talk to Mr. Lambrecht in 209 South for more information.  Buy a band, change a life.

- Calling all UT girls! On Thursday, February 27th, the Girl Crush group will be hosting a "Girls Night Out" event for all UT girls! It will be from 6-9pm in the UT commons. We will be watching a movie, talking girl talk and doing girl things! The cost will be $5 and boosters will be there providing concessions. We have invited the 8th grade students from our partnering schools as well. It is sure to be a great time! Hope to see you all there! Please see Mrs. Demory or Mrs. Shattuck if you have any questions!
