Announcements

GENERAL INFORMATION:

Students, starting today, you will not be allowed out of the cafeteria or commons during lunch unless you have a pink pass from a teacher.

You may have noticed this semester that we have a student with a service dog here at school.  The dog's name is Westly and he is a welcome addition to the UTHS family, but we want to outline some dos and don'ts.  He is here based on the specific needs of his handler, which cannot be disclosed.

Please do not talk to, bark at, pet, or feed him in the halls, cafeteria/commons, or in class.  He is a highly trained service animal and unsolicited and unapproved interactions with him hinder his training and obedience.
Westly may only be addressed with the permission of his handler.  Please DO ask for permission from his handler before having any interactions with him.

Wednesday, March 2nd, 21 teams will participate in the Special Olympics annual Polar Plunge in the UTHS pool.  There will be a parade of team costumes and an ice bucket event.  Our UT deans and principals are excited to pick the teams who will experience the chill of the ice bucket. So, please bring your coins and drop them into the buckets for either the Deans or the Principals.  Admission will be $3 and the event will start at 3:30pm.  Your support and contributions go to support UTHS Special Olympic athletes, and we hope to see you there!

Friday, March 4 is the last day to pre-order a copy of the 2021-2022 yearbook for the low cost of $50. Payment may be made online at uths.net or in the General Office. The availability of books to be purchased after March 4th is not guaranteed as there will be a limited number of extras. The cost then increases to $60 and payment cannot be accepted until the books arrive in late May. Save yourself the trouble and get your book ordered TODAY! You do not want to miss out on this COLORFUL memory keepsake.

"The Silvis Optimist Club is once again sponsoring the Oratorical Contest. Since its start in 1928, the Optimist Oratorical Contest has become the longest-running program sponsored by Optimist International. The contest is designed for youth to gain experience in public speaking, perfect self-expression, gain self-assurance, improve communication skills, and provide them with the opportunity to compete for a college scholarship. In order to compete, students will write a 4-5 minute speech on this year's topic: "Staying Optimistic in Challenging Times". Students who choose to participate will compete at UT on March 31st at 6:00pm. If you are interested in earning scholarship money and practicing some valuable skills, then email Mr. Greer at [email protected] by Friday, March 4th. He will help you with the writing and presentation of your speeches! We had 10 students last year - let's see if we can get even more!"
