GENERAL INFORMATION:

"The Silvis Optimist Club is once again sponsoring the Oratorical Contest. Since its start in 1928, the Optimist Oratorical Contest has become the longest-running program sponsored by Optimist International. The contest is designed for youth to gain experience in public speaking, perfect self-expression, gain self-assurance, improve communication skills, and provide them with the opportunity to compete for a college scholarship. In order to compete, students will write a 4-5 minute speech on this year's topic: "Staying Optimistic in Challenging Times". Students who choose to participate will compete at UT on March 31st at 6:00pm. If you are interested in earning scholarship money and practicing some valuable skills, then email Mr. Greer at [email protected] by Friday, March 4th. He will help you with the writing and presentation of your speeches! We had 10 students last year - let's see if we can get even more!"

Next week is Music in our Schools week! Each day, the Tri-M Music Honor Society will invite classes to play trivia during Panther Pride time; organize dress theme days; and host lunch activities. Monday's dress theme is early 2000s and you're invited to dress like your favorite music artists and styles from the early 2000s. Outfits must abide by the school dress code. Also, those of you who play piano are invited to compete in a piano performance contest on Friday of next week. We want you to know now so you can plan over the weekend and start practicing. Look for flyers that outline the different dress days and lunch activities in more detail. We hope you have fun sharing the music and participating in all the activities!

This year's read and win prize goes to Amara Minnaert. Amara please come down to the library for your gift card. The read and win program is open to all, and simple to participate. Fill out a form on the library's website after you have read a book. For any questions please see a library staff member.
