School Cancellation Information
School Closing Information and Links for Verification
Deciding to close school for reasons of inclement weather are made with the concern for student and staff safety first and foremost.
It may be helpful to see just what all goes into that final decision and the short time allowed to assess, make a decision and notify everyone involved.
Decisions to close school will be made as early as possible. Superintendent Jay Morrow will check weather conditions by venturing out around 4:00 am to get an idea of what they are like. After reaching a tentative decision, Dr. Morrow will call the Moline and Rock Island superintendents to advise them of weather conditions. These three superintendents will make a mutual decision to close or not close. Dr. Morrow will then call superintendents from the five elementary partner districts to notify them of the decision to close school. Dr. Morrow will activate the UTHS School Messenger Service to notify parents and staff directly. Our website may have a posting regarding school closings, barring any technical or staffing difficulties, but the absence of notification on the website does not mean school has not been canceled. Instead, rely on direct notification by School Messenger and/or the local news media outlets.
Decisions concerning scheduled events will be made later in the day on an individual basis.
